Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management is a faculty of the ULB - Université Libre de Bruxelles -, the french-speaking University of Brussels. U.L.B. is one of the top universities in Europe, particularly active in the ERASMUS exchange programme.
In 1831, a group of leading figures in the fields of arts, sciences and education created a university in a city that would later become the capital of Europe. To meet the challenges of changing times, the founders opted for a forward-thinking establishment. The Université Libre de Bruxelles celebrated its first academic year in 1834, opening its doors to a selection of 96 students. It currently welcomes around 21,000 students per year. True to its pioneering mission, the ULB offers a great range of disciplines and specialisations. This has also remained a fundamental part of a philosophy that now covers several teaching hospitals and research-oriented science parks. It has spawned numerous awards, including three Nobel Prizes. For business students, the ULB offers a modern environment, with ample sports facilities in extensive wooded grounds. In addition to its own highly developed Social Sciences library, students have access to ULB facilities including the Library of Human Sciences with more than 1.5 million books, multimedia material, periodicals, a state-of-the-art online research database and Internet access. Students can also access other ULB libraries, cultural and sports facilities.
