Executive Programme in Security Governance

The Executive Programme in Security Governance launched in 2015, is based upon a curriculum comprising rich course content.

In 2005, Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management set a new standard by becoming the first ever Business School to offer Executive Education in Information Security Management covering various domains of Management of Information Technology, Information Security, Risk, Audit, Compliance and IT value creation.

Academic requirements encompass 6 modules for a total of 144 hours taught via two evening classes per week that are typically completed over one year.

This programme is designed for current and future managers with responsibilities over information security, related governance and decision making processes.

Managing information security requires a broad of knowledge related to frameworks, practices and methods (that are lectured in module S1). A workshop covers all the cycles necessary for developing an Information Security Plan (module S3). Technical knowledge areas for Information Security technology (lectured in module S2) are a necessary complement for all Information Security Officers/practitioners taking the course.

The CIO Foundation module (module G1) brings real-life expertise sharing from seasoned decision makers in the domains of governance and management. The IT Management workshop (module G2) combines the COBIT framework with workshop and case studies on various management, control and audit-related facets. It addresses governance requirements liking Enterprise objectives with technical, risk and security related objectives. IT Risk and IT-related legal concerns (module G3) are knowledge requirements for every manager.

The body of knowledge is delivered through lectures, workshops, case discussions, group work and personal essays, as well as via the participant Intranet system containing electronic documents, shared links, and all presentation material. Cutting-edge knowledge is also disseminated by guest speakers (all experts in their chosen field), topic leaders, and peer participants.

Participants who successfully complete this Executive Programme are entitled to then study for the Executive Master in Information Risk and Cybersecurity, which requires an additional year to complete, via two evenings per week.

Lectured topics are grouped in six modules within the following tracks:

 

 

This education is aligned with various professional certifications including the Certificate in Information Systems Security professionals (CISSP), Certificate in Information Security Manager (CISM), SANS, the Cybersecurity guidelines from the National Institute for Standardization and Technology (NIST), and the ISACA Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX). The ISO standards related to risk management and Information Security (ISO 27001, ISO 27002, ISO 27005, ISO 27034, ISO 27032 are integrated in the lectured material and resources are shared on practical implementations.

This education is also meant for Data Protection OfficersCybersecurity ExpertsRisk ManagersInformation Security Officers (CISO) and business managers involved in those activities.

Jan-March

Management practices for Senior Information Security functions including overviews of COBIT for Security, ISO 2700x series, and major frameworks and bodies of knowledge. Lectures and practical cases related to various Information Security and Cybersecurity challenges.

Apr-June

Overview of technology-related topics for Information Security. Alignment with major Information security certification schemes. Illustration through recently developed security implementation approaches.

Sept-Dec

Build a specific security/Cybersecurity plan that includes all necessary actions for assessing risks, conceiving mitigation and developing a comprehensive Information Security Strategy plan on an individually-selected environment.

   

Jan-March

An overview by experienced executives and practitioners of key CIO/ IT executive involvement areas covering subjects like  Governance, Value Management, Sourcing, Innovation, Communication and Strategy Planning.

Apr-June

IT Governance implementation starting from business and IT goals. Assess, organise, Build organisational capabilities through IT Processes and enablers. Prepares for COBIT 5 foundation certification.

Sept-Dec

Gain a broad view on all IT related risks enterprises are faced with, with special attention to legal and compliance aspects. Apply the leading COBIT 5 for Risk framework to a practical case study.

Acceptance Interview

This interview is designed to assess your ability to attend the intended education and to guide you in making the most suitable choices for your current activities and needs. Prepare carefully and make sure any additional queries you may have are answered.

 

Certificate delivered

At the end of your education, you will receive a certificate of Executive Education issued by the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. The certificate is awarded to the participant who:

- Has an overall average of 60% for the whole education and has passed all the exams (above 50%)
- Present his/her close-down assignment (Executive Summary)
Attend at least 70% of the overall lectured programme
